Comprehensive Literacy K-6

Our comprehensive literacy program enables students to understand and appreciate language and use is confidently and successfully. All components of comprehensive literacy are essential, interconnected, and taught in conjunction with each other.  Components include:

  • reading
  • writing
  • oral language
  • visual language
  • word study

We have a schoolwide focus on 5 pillars - phonological awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, comprehension. Exposure to diverse literature is a key component to building confidence in reading and writing. Edmonton Catholic Schools' Assessment for Learning Project and Balanced Literacy are integral pieces to our literacy program.

Numeracy K-6

Math learning is fun! We explore new concepts through literature and build practice through hands-on learning, centers, and games.  Students explore real world problem solving and engage in math congress (dialogue) to learn different strategies to solve problems.
